Van Gogh for 4th and 5th grade

Last posts from the Van Gogh unit... I hope!  Here are some examples from the 4th and 5th grade lessons.  These were their Art to Remember designs.

5th grade art was inspired by Van Gogh's shoe and boot paintings.  We focused on drawing one or two shoes using 1 point perspective.  This was a fun lesson for all!  Many students took off their shoes to use a still-life and there were lots of giggles and some excellent results!  I would do this again in a heartbeat!

4th grade focused on Van Gogh's self-portraits.  We covered how to draw portraits straight on as well as with a 3/4 profile, as many of Van Gogh's portraits show.  Students used water color pencils for this project, choosing complementary colors and finally outlined.  As with my previous experience using color schemes, I always have some students forget to use the scheme or resist using it because they do not like the 'look' of it.
